Top 10 Luxury Fastest Cars in the World in 2014
Do you feel the need for speed? Here’s a list of the top 10 fastest cars in the world in 2014:
10. Lamborghini Aventator, Ascari A10, Aston Martin One-77
Topping out at 220 mph (354 km/h), each of the three models in the #10 spot are sleek and fast. The Lamborghini Aventator is the most “affordable” of the three, with a base price of $379,000. The Ascari A10 and the Aston Martin One-77 are significantly more expensive, but are also much more limited. Ascari advertises that 50 A10s will be available, while Aston Martin is limiting the production of the One-77 to 77, hence the name.
9. Gumpert Apollo, Noble M600
These sleek machines will travel 225 mph (362 km/h). The Gumpert Apollo has a particular unique design feature – it can be driven in a tunnel, upside down, at speeds of at least 190 mph (306 km/h)! Driving one of the top ten fastest cars upside down in a tunnel would certainly be quite an experience. The Noble M600 has been criticized for its braking performance, but was reviewed very positively by the British publication “Top Gear.”
8. Pagani Huayra
Taking its name from the Incan god of the wind, the Pagani Huayra clocks in at a top speed of 230 mph (370 km/h). The aforementioned “Top Gear” gave the 2012 model of the car the “Hypercar of the Year.” What does this god-like automobile set one back? In US dollars, this car costs a cool $1,300,000. A new innovation on the Huayra, as opposed to its predecessor, the Zonda, is “active aerodynamics,” which gives the car the ability to change its height off of the ground by using controllable flaps.
7. Zenvo ST1
Car enthusiasts that want to get their hands on this speed demon are going to have to act fast; production of the 233 mph (374 km/h) Zenvo ST1, which is the first supercar from the Danish manufacturer, is limited to 15 units. The car was recently shown off at the invite-only World Luxury Expo in Dubai, UAE. The sleek Zenvo website also offers a very nice 360 degree interactive view of its new exclusive product.
6. McLaren F1
Perhaps one of the most recognizable names and doors in the automotive industry, the McLaren F1 zips by at an impressive 240 mph (386 km/h). Advertised on the McLaren website as the “fastest production car of its time, the finest of its generation, and for many, the greatest super car ever built,” the doors swing open upwards as opposed to outwards. It actually proved its claim in 1998 when it posted a speed of 243 mph (391 km/h).
5. Koenigsegg CCX
For just over a half-million US dollars, $545,658 to be exact, the Koenigsegg CCX can be any car lover’s dream. This dream goes fast and loves speed; the top speed of the Koenigsegg CCX is 245 mph (394 km/h). Manufactured in Sweden, a few alterations had to be made to previous models to be able to succeed in the United States, including a cleaner engine that could run on 91-octane fuel.
4. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo
Complete with a sleek looking spoiler on the back, the Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo barely edges out the Koenigsegg CCX for the 4th fastest production car in 2014. Its top speed is listed at 248 mph (399 km/h) and, true to the name, features an all aluminum twin-turbo engine. The new twin-turbo powerplant format increased the workload of the engine to 750 horsepower.
3. Porsche 9ff GT-9, SSC Ultimate Aero
Production of the Porsche 9ff GT-9 is limited to 20, and the exterior can be customized to suit whomever is placing the order. Its 1120 horsepower engine pushes the car, which was based on the Porsche 911, at 257 mph (413 km/h). The SSC Ultimate Aero records the same top speed, and actually held the world speed record for several years, from 2007 to 2010. The SSC stands for “Shelby Supercars,” an American manufacturer. Who says American cars can’t go fast?
2. Koenigsegg Agera R
The aforementioned SSC Ultimate Aero had the world speed record for three years. What was the car that broke that record? The $1,600,000 Koenigsegg Agera R! Not only can this bad boy get to a top tested speed of 260 mph (418 km/h), but it can be “winterized” as well. Now, one might stop short of taking your Koenigsegg Agera R supercar to the family mountain cabin in the dead of winter, but who says a nice little test drive in the snow at 260 mph won’t break up the winter blues?
1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
Finally, the top speed for a car in 2014 is 267 mph (429 km/h), and it belongs to the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. The top speed has been bouncing between the Bugattis and the SSCs for the last few years, but the Veyron Super Sport is the current speed king. For a price tag of $1,700,000, this Volkswagen developed and French manufactured car features 1200 horsepower and was designed by Jozef Kaban.
The debate over what makes a car good or bad will always rage, but everyone can agree that any one of the top 10 fastest cars in the world in 2014 can take people from point A to point B very, very quickly and very, very stylishly. Some of the technology seems like it would work not only in a car, but in a high-performance airplane! As the human race continues to learn more and more about pushing the envelopes of performance, the quest for speed will only get more and more exciting.
